I don’t know much about blogging… yet. This is a most ubiquitous mode of communication these days. Nearly everyone is doing it and almost anyone can do it. But, I went out online and tried to find some blogging about Jesus and didn’t find much. In fact, I didn’t find anything. Perhaps I didn’t know where to look or what to look for. Nevertheless, I will add my own voice to those that I am sure must be out here, attempting to advance the gospel of Jesus. I often wear a T-shirt with a “Superman” “S” symbol on the front, and the verse, Ephesians 4: 13 quoted on the back. On the front, in small letters just below the “S”, is a verse that describes the source of the power at work within me: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.—Romans 1: 16”. The verse that follows also is most relevant to the reason for this blog: “For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous man shall live by faith.””—Romans 1: 17.

Luke 9:1-3

As Jesus sent His twelve disciples on a mission, He gave them power to preach the word and perform healing. Nevertheless, He prohibited them from taking things that would be a distraction to their mission. He commanded them to “Take nothing for your journey, neither a staff, nor a bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not even have two tunics apiece.” Luke 9:3.
Why did Jesus not want the disciples to take along with them simple necessities? He wanted to teach them the important lesson of living by faith and that He was going to provide their every need on the journey to which they were commissioned. What would you take for your journey? Would you take a staff (earthly goods), a bag (material things), bread (food), money, or tunics (clothes)?
My friend, nothing in this world can compare to a walk with Jesus Christ. Today, take nothing for your journey as you walk by faith and trust in Him. He will take care of you.
